Create a haven teaming with life by following this ideas
We all know how important it is to look after the beautiful and diverse wildlife around us.
From birds roosting in the trees to the countless number of insects teaming away in the ground and on plants, there is so much life around us that we may not even realise.
Whether you have moved into a new home or are looking to enhance the wildlife activity in your old garden, there is plenty each of us can do to encourage the creatures to visit our plots.
Pick the right flowers, trees and shrubs in your garden
Making sure your garden or green space has a mixed range of different trees, shrubs and flowers is a bit plus towards benefitting wildlife.
The trees and shrubs provide both food and shelter for critters and nesting sites for garden animals and birds.
Flowers meanwhile provide pollen and nectar for bees and butterflies, which is a crucial component of their fertilisation.
Pick flowers for your garden which are high in pollen and nectar for as long as possible during summer, such as crocus and mahonia.
Consider adding a pond for a splash of life
Whether finally finding a use for that empty corner of the garden or making it a true centrepiece for the whole space, adding a pond into your garden is a great way of encouraging lifestyle.
Adding a sloping side to the pond will make a good way for amphibians, like frogs and newts, to come and go at ease.
Try not to add fish yourself into the pond if you want to encourage natural wildlife.
Feed the birds
No matter what time of the year it is, birds need to eat.
Birds are very easy to attract to your garden, simply by making sure there is food available for them to enjoy.
Whether adding a bird table or box, put out mixtures of foods including fat balls, peanuts and sunflower hearts, which is a true feast for our feathered friends.
Add a source of clean water for the birds as well to ensure they regularly return.
